O Stylish Ones please tell me what colour carpet I should have

Help. Am decorating a room which will have a mid-brown sofa in it and a couple of other items which have bits of bright green in them. (Not fashionable acid green think bottle green/green baize).

Was intending to do the walls light cream or off white. The room will also contain large bookcases providing random colour.

Have children incapable of not dropping food and drinks on the floor. The last carpet was pale and supposedly scotchguarded and is a disgrace despite professional cleaning.

What should I put down? Don't want wood or laminate as have that most other places.

Boring maybe, but I would go for oaty creamy colour every time. Will go with any changes of furniture/ walls etc. Get a kind of mottled-y colour with little flecks in it, rather than just a cream carpet and it won't show the dirt so badly..

I agree with the oaty flecky option. Don't go dark as it will show every bit of fluff.

I actually bought a Bissell carpet cleaner (from Costco, supercheap compared to elsewhere). It's brilliant and cleans the carpet really really well. Much better than the professional cleaners I have had in the past.

I really would opt for wood - I think having the same flooring throughout is nicer and from everything you say, it will be more practical. Buy a nice (washable) rug as a compromise. Grin
