6 yr old dds bedroom

Hi all I thought I would ask you wonderful people for help.

We are decorating 6yr old dd bedroom. It's the first bedroom she has had where she hasn't had to share with her brother.

She wants it pink and purple and girly.

Can anyone give me some ideas on how to do this on a tight budget please. we have all the big stuff bed, wardrobe etc.

Duvet covers - my 6yo DD1 has this set, with this as the other set.

The central light is pink spotlights, and her bedside lamp is this pink furry number I can;t find a picture of online, but it gives a nice pink glow to her room! She than has bookends on her chest of drawers which are pink unicorns, and various other bits of pink tat decorative touches. What about some of the wall stickers that you can peel back off again too?

TBH, I think you're much better keeping the big stuff neutral (carpet, furniture etc) and giving her the colours she wants as the soft furnishings, as she may well change her mind about pink in a year or so (I live in hope anyway, as it's not my favourite colour).

I bloody hate pink but it looks quite sweet.

i kitted my ds out on ebay with next bug jam theme the whole lot rugs duvet curtains bin lamp shade etc all for 25 pounds

Argos is fab for putting together a girls room - there is a whole new colour range and also if you access the clearance site you can pick up bits and pieces.

No one can believe my DD's bedroom is all from Argos.

Oh and also plain colour walls - then as your DD grows and her tastes change, you can change accessories for a new look (although our theme should last a few years)

And agree re furniture and carpets. We have solid pine furniture and a neutral carpet.

My dd was very pleased with some bunting that I sewed for her from scraps of pink. I also decorated some asda cushions by sewing on some nice girly fabrics. My sewing skills are weak, btw, but I figured it would be much cheaper and more personal - not to mention more 'bonding' to get her to input by picking fabrics, helping me cut etc. I looked at some of the posher catalogues like 'the white company' for ideas and to get DD to understand 'the look'. They are full of patchwork type things, that are quite easy to copy in fact.

she has continued to accesorise her room with things like scarves and necklaces draped over the bed and wardrobe.

From lidl , we got some pink gingham room stick on paper. We cut out hearts and flowers and butterflies and her name etc and she stuck it on the walls and on her bed.

I wanted to haney a canopy over her bed - I even bought it from ikea - but I was worried it,d get trashed by the toddler.

dd has got a silver high sleeper bed and a pine wardrobe so that wont be getting changed.

We are going to look at carpet but i can guarantee her it wont be pink or purple lol.

Just got to get the accesories for her room to finish it off. That is of course once ive painted it. I've just finished stripping the walls after 2 days lol.

Magnetic paint. dd (6.5) is going to have a big rectangle painted in it on her bedroom wall, so she can put up her own photos, pictures, certificates etc.

What she really wants is to paint flowers and birds all over her room, but as a compromise we'll let her choose some big wall stickers and have the magnetic wall!
