combi or boiler and tank?

combi circa 2k

just boiler 1 k

roughly.

Agree.

Check Warmfront to see if you qualify for a grant.

rainbowinthesky · 03/08/2010 15:40

Thanks. I assume it is just the boiler as it is this which has packed in - deals with heating and hot water to taps and washing machine. The shower is separate thank god. 1 grand wouldnt be so bad.

We have a back boiler that we want to replace, very very old, so we're in the process of getting quotes for a new combi boiler. So far we've only got one quote and it was for £2500,that was removal of old boiler, installation of new boiler and one new radiator as the rest are ok.

loopylou6 · 04/08/2010 13:09

Linnet, that is stupid, you are being taken for a massive ride there. My husband has just put a brand new combi boiler, 31 kw, new gas line, 8 rads, and a chrome towel rail and new thermo valves for £2450 oh and also a r/f room stat

CappuccinoCarrie · 04/08/2010 13:35

Total cost for our new combi boiler was about £1500, just taking out old knackered one and putting in shiney new one.

Taking out a back boiler is a pretty big job though, and putting in the plumbing for the new combi boiler could be complex coz its not like a like-for-like boiler replacement where all the pipes are already in the right place, its a whole new system isn't it? Not surprised it costs a lot.

we paid £2500 (all in) for removal of old boiler, installation of new combi boiler, installation of exceedingly whizzy programmable wireless thermostat, installation of thermostatic valves on all the radiators, plus one new radiator.

DON'T get British gas to come and quote - they quoted 4.5k for exactly the same job AND told me that they would have to resite the boiler, thus meaning I would need to retile the kitchen, install a brand new work surface, and reposition the sink None of this was included in the quote.

oh and British Gas also sent an idiot man round who told me I "had" to have a massive new panel radiator where I wanted a small one.

When I told him I needed a half size in order to be able to put a table in the remaining space, otherwise the DC would be sitting with their legs against a burning radiator he said "Well dear, I think you'll find that children grow up, but you'll be regretting the wrong size radiator for the rest of your lives."

WTF?!
