OnlyTwice · 01/08/2010 20:12

Is it very difficult to be done?

What flooring do i need to buy, how thick?

How long should it take one person for one staircase and how much?

Any advice very much welcome

I hope you are joking.

This would be a hazard on stairs.

OnlyTwice · 01/08/2010 20:21

I wasn't joking

I hate carpets and the rest of the house is laminate so i thought will be good (?)

Very slippery.

We have bamboo on the stairs - I was worried it would be slipery but it is fine.

Loud, slippery and will look like a cheap petshop or the staircase to the basement toilets in a dodgy restaurant. Don't do it!

If the stairs are made of wood, rub down and paint or stain it (not shiny varnish though!) If not, try a covering like sisal which isn't too carpet-like.

I hate carpet to, and we have hard wood floors upstairs and down, and were advised heavily against it on the stairs, even though the the floor shop stood to make more money out of us. We have very plain carpet on the stairs, in a mid beigey colour to match the wood.

OnlyTwice · 01/08/2010 21:23

a jumped how thick the bamboo is for stairs?

here i will google sisal, don't know what is.

Bike i still don't want carpet , but if it is slippery maybe a runner?

I have stripped stairs - i love it. The kids do slip going up now and again, but very rarely.

You can get black grippy things at Ikea.

BTW, my brother has laminate on his stairs - it looks very very good - he has rubbery cap things on the end of the stairs - very grippy and seems safe.

The bamboo is about 2cm thick. It was the same stuff we had for our floors.
We had it fitted professionally - our staircase is a very awkeard shape. He put stair noses on as well, it looks great.

Thank you. I will check the bamboo ones, can i also ask how long did it take him for one staircase? Do they charge much more than laying rooms?

purple, many thanks. I didnt think about the grippy things, will check them out.

Our staircase was v tricky - it forks in three directions and wasn't even either (very old house) so it took him a week! He said that he can do a normal staircase in 2 days. I think he charged the same price as for laying the floor in a room.

OnlyTwice · 01/08/2010 22:17

Ok i think 2 days is not bad. Thank you.

Your staircase sounds nice-mine is straight, boring.
