Honest opinions about this sofa please

Hi,

Dh and I really want to buy this sofa

www.roche-bobois.com/#/en-uk/products/all/all/all/863/fullscreen/ same cushions, upholstery and size as in the pic.

We have just bought our first home, a smallish 3 bed cottage, and absolutely love this sofa to put in the living room, but I would love some advice please. The room is square, 4 x 4 m, but stairs against one wall which makes the useable space a rectangle. Walls not entirely straight, working fireplace at the one end and door from the entrance hall at the other, window inbetween. 2 bare stone walls. To say this is a considered purchase is an understatement, have to be sure, so please help me with my questions

  • we can have the cushions in the same fabric as the upholstery, as opposed to the mix of fabrics in the pic. DH loves the cushions, I do too, but am worried that we would tire of it quickly. WWYD?
  • Would the low back and loose cushions as opposed to 'solid' cushions cushions on a standard sofa put you off? Do you think it could possible be uncomfortable after you've spent a while on it? MIL thinks you will forever be bunching in cushions behind your back... It was quite comfy in the showroom, or so I thought anyway...
  • what is your experience of a deep seat, would you find it uncomfortable?

Sorry, this turned into a bit of an essay, but I'll appreciate any comments. Will check back later, thanks x

I love the sofa but my only thought would be that it is very low at the back. Knowing how we like to lounge about relax, I suspect they would be a little uncomfortable.

I absolutely love the look of the sofa - it's gorgeous. But I do think that it may be a little uncomfy. We have a deep sofa and it only really works if you have oodles of cushions behind you AND if you're less than about 5'8, if you have you legs up on the sofa too. So absoutely fine for lounging in evenings but not so good for 'guests'. IYSWIM.

I do love it though!

I hate you for having the means and space for this beautiful piece of furnature. And that is all I will say

Oh and that with long legs, a sofa with adeep seat would be a godsend. great for snuggling spoonlike.

IHeartKingThistle · 27/07/2010 15:10

That is gorgeous!

I think as long as you have some other workable seating with higher backs you should be fine for guests. But is the room big enough to have another sofa/couple of chairs?

Ooh I'm going to have to have a browse on that site - dh may not be pleased...

IWishIWasAFrog · 27/07/2010 15:14

wow replies already!
We are all quite tall, I'm 1.7m, DH is the shortest male in his family and he is 1.82, so longish legs all around...

pooka, I was thinking of getting the matching footstool thingy, so you could really get v comfy if you wanted to!

This would be the place to receive guests too, would it all look too 'untidy'?

tx.

It's lovely. We have a similar natuzzi one but in cream microfibre (mistake). The deep seat makes up for the low back but not great for good posture. Do you have room for a couple of more formal upright chairs in the room too?

lalalonglegs · 27/07/2010 15:50

I think it's great but think it will be too big for the room. Try "building" a sofa of the same size out of cardboard boxes to give you an idea of the space it eats up - you really need a room with the dimensions it is being shown in to get away with a piece of furniture on that scale. Sorry - it is absolutely gorgeous.

IWishIWasAFrog · 27/07/2010 17:04

great idea lalalonglegs, completion is on Monday, will 'pack' the sofa out with empty boxes.

Never buy unless you have sat on it first!

HerHonesty · 27/07/2010 19:14

i think its absolutely lovely BUT i think its a little large for your room AND i think you might find the corner set up limiting for entertaining purposes.

noddyholder · 27/07/2010 19:43

Roche bobois are stunning but you do need a huge room to accomodate them as if its squashed in you won't really 'see' it iygwim.habitat do similar but the quality is nowhere near as good but they do come in more compact sizes

IHeartKingThistle · 27/07/2010 20:37

I'm back again, was just thinking about it and you could totally get the same look by getting a grey chaise sofa (smaller of needed) and then piling it with super-gorgeous cushions. That would possibly solve the low-back issue as well. There's lots of chaise sofas around at the moment (I'd love to get one when we move!). Ignore me if your heart's set on that one but if the dimensions might not work then recreating the look would't be that hard. Might do it myself actually!

lalalonglegs · 06/08/2010 12:46

So - will you buy or not?

ledodgy · 06/08/2010 12:50

I like it BUT if you have young children think about how many times a day you will be replacing the cushions...

lalalonglegs · 04/09/2010 15:23

Did if fit? For some reason, keep thinking about this.
