Renting a Property

Looking for some advice please. We are about to rent a property for a few months and are currently looking for somewhere suitable. Is it normal practice to make an offer on the monthly rental or is the price advertised the price you pay? Is rent negotiable?

We rented between selling and buying. I negotiated a reduction in the rental. Think it went from £1100 per month and we paid £1000 per month. When I say negotiated, I asked and they said yes. HTH

My Dad rented for a while a got a good deal as he paid cash up front. Even if this is not an option, I do know of people who have negotiated the rent down - esp when it has been available to rent for a while.

Thank you cece and minty - will try the cash up front option.

Think it depends on the state of the market where you are. We put our house on the market to rent last week and before it even went into the paper it was rented for the full price. This is purely because there are no 3 bed family houses to rent in the villages around here. Because it went so quickly we are now kicking ourselves that we didn't ask for more

Oh, actually we have another flat which we started renting out last year and we accepted £20 pcm below the asking price. It's going to go up next renewal though.

Looking to rent a house for a year in the Derby suburbs of say Allestree, Duffield, Little Eaton, Mickleover or somewhere further out but close enough to travel. Can anyone recommend a reliable letting agent.
