What do you use your conservatory for? And best use of mine?

Conservatory is off dining area of open-plan ground floor, and is main route to garden. There are double doors from living space to conservatory, and then double doors from conservatory to garden.

Washing machine is currently in conservatory because there is no room in the kitchen but we are doing the kitchen this autumn.

My options are:

  • washing machine in kitchen (not massive so would mean sacrificing 60cm of base unit storage)
  • washing machine in conservatory
  • washing machine in a doorway (currently unused) between conservatory and kitchen but boxed in at the back so that in conservatory it looks like a cupboard, but we access the washing machine from inside the kitchen. Does that make sense?

I'm concerned about the aesthetics of the latter, though it's DH's favourite.
The conservatory is symmetrical with the double doors making a straight line through to the garden. I think the boxed-in bit might look uneven.

At the moment the conservatory is like a utility room/dumping ground, but as it's the route (and view) into the garden, I want it to be the least utilitarian possible. I harbour images of ferns and a sunlounger!

What would you do?
Thanks!

Either A or C, like you i would want to 'use' a conservatory for relaxing in, not just another room to dump things in like our study is

I'd go for C - sounds cunning!

C definitely! what kind of washing machine do you have? as if it is a shorty, you could build the "cupboard" the full length of the door and make additional storage space
(which might even house some fo the junk that is currently in there already!)

and defo with the sunlounger :D :D I have one in mine--absolute best place to lie down with a good book! (it looks like this one a bit- www.doubleglazingontheweb.co.uk/conservatory_gallery.php

I run my business in mine

But would the cupboard make a nice shelf in the conservatory to put a plant in or would it be full height

If full height could you put a matching on the other side of the conservatory & store loads in it (you could even put a false door on it to make it match)

Make the cupboard full height and the full length of the wall. Put washing machine on kitchen side. Use the space above for laundry basket and have shelves for cleaning materials etc. If the space is wider than 60cm you could keep ironing board, hoover and mops.

Use the remaining space in the conservatory to build another cupboard that opens from that side. You could shelf the top half to hold books or make in into an office space to house a computer.
