St Michaels Mead in Bishops Stortford - good for families?

Been looking to move out of London for nearly a year. Have fallen in love with a house on St Michael's Mead in Stortford... but at 11am on a sunny saturday morning there was nobody to be seen on foot around the estate... and we were the only people in the playground there...

we have 3 kids aged 9, 2 and 6 months and are looking for a place where its safe for them to ride their bikes without us etc... feels like it would be good there but if so why are there no kids around!

any views on the area much appreciated!

My mum lives on St Michaels Mead (I now live way up North with my own family) but I did live there uni holidays etc until about 5 years ago - it's a nice area - lots of families around and my boys like the play areas and feeding the ducks on the lake (I think they are some of the best fed ducks on the planet!). Not sure if that helps so hope you get someone with a more recent viewpoint....There are certainly a lot of people around in Bishops Stortford who have moved out of London to get more space.

I've often seen a lot of kids playing out/riding bikes etc when we've been on walks around the place so I think that you hit it at an unusually quiet time.

thanks happy, that's good to hear, it seems really idyllic, and the house we like overlooks the lake part...

Hi
I am just in the process of buying on St Michaels Mead, currently in London N1 have 2 kids aged 10 and 2. Have a couple of friends on there and they really love living there. Of course it is much quieter than London but have just come back from spending the afternoon and there were quite a few kids around and families with toddlers in the park. Take it from me there are definately lots of kids there go for it!

Nice place to live but you are totally dependent on a car.
