Kitchen plinth lights - yes or no?

Do you have them and do you like them or regret them?

We managed to get the kitchen design for the budget we'd set, but are just wondering whether we should have gone for the plinth lights along the bottom. It's a u-shaped kitchen, wooden units, granite worktops, sandstone coloured vinyl flooring. We have lights under the wall cupboards, and a 3-moveable-spots light on the ceiling. If we got some round white LED plinth lights it would add an extra £300 to the kitchen cost, for 9 lights. My mum thinks its a waste of money, I think they are pretty but I suppose non-essential, DH thinks they add a finishing touch to the kitchen that makes it look well done

Pros and cons please!

I've never seen them installed in RL. If they won't increase the amount of task lighting I wouldn't bother tbh. I'd rather spend the money on better flooring...

Waste of money. I had them and to be honest you could barely see the light unless you switched the main ceiling lights off. I think you can get relly powerful bulbs for them (which I didn't) but I would sepnd the £300 ons omething else if I were you.

We have blue ones at the bottom. TBH we have probably had them on 6 times in 3 years......

I did think we would use these at night (cheaper to run) than the undercupboard ones but its not happened !

We've got blue l.e.d. ones and they look fab when it's dark. They're a nice finishing touch to a kitchen.
If you've got £300 to spare and like plinth lights, get them.

My BIL installed these for ny MIL, didn't cost anywhere near £300, so I say if you really want them DIY, but I'm not keen remids me of being in a club

LOL, we have a galley kitchen, and our blue lights make the floor look a bit like an airport runway.

Hmm, looking like more against than for at the moment! We have never used the lighting under our wall cupboards in the 10 years we've lived here so I do wonder if I'll switch them on.

Saying that, it is part of a major re-design with switching the dining room to the conservatory off the kitchen, so if we have friends round I will be more inclined to switch off the ceiling lights so we can't see the mess!

Eaglebird - love the airport runway comment! (Might be risky, we get lots of Chinooks flying over our house!)
