Wait for house or move area?

We've been renting here (large village, about 6 miles from nearest city) for 2 years now, and very few houses have come up for sale, the ones we like are pretty expensive but still get snapped up quickly, we've either been outbid or the house was sold within a few days of being put onh the market. If we move to the city we'd have more choice of houses, and also be alot closer to work. But, the dc (4 and 6) are very happy and settled at school, and there is also a good secondary here.

Anyone else got fed up of waiting and decided to change area and uproot dc from school to buy a house?

We did think we were going to have to uproot back to the city at one stage (we are also in a largish village) but our nearest city schools are terrible and that was the main reason we moved out of it in the first place.

Any chance you could buy your rental? We're doing this at the moment. We got some money off as LL needed to sell and it will (hopefully) be a less stressful sale.

Unless you have to move, is there any rush? You may find prices come down a bit soon and there is more on the market in your area.

If your children are happy and settled (blessings) then imo sit tight and wait in the area that you know and like.

we are changing dc school, they are 5 and 6, and moving to a different area, will have to rent as cant find anything to buy. children seem happy about it all and even though its their last day today children are very adaptable.

I don't think we can buy our rental, as the landlords are going to move in here at some point in the future. They are planning to build an extension, and when that starts we'll have to move out - again not sure when that will be. So we may end up having to move into another rental anyway, but would much prefer to buy and only have one move, hence a bit of urgency.

Also, the dc are coming up to y3 and reception in September, so I feel that if we are going to move area this would be a better time for a school change than later. The schools here are great, but I think fine in most parts of the city too, its just a bit more of a gamble.
