Lead taken by roofer

we recently had a small flat roof at the front of the house re-covered with felt

it had been re-felted twice over the (probably) original lead which our neighbour reckons cost him £800 - £1000 to replace (that's just to buy the lead not to fit it as well).

Our roofer took the lead away while we're out... After the event he reckons it was only worth £30 at the scrappy. He said it would cost about £450 to buy new.

We think he owes us some money - anyone know what the scrap equivalent of £450 of lead might be worth?

Stats for lead thefts are back up, so it suggests a reasonable price would be offered.

Not sure but did he tell you he was taking it? Tell him you want it back!

Lead scrap is about £700/tonne but that is for largish size quantities. See prices here.

I am guessing he took away maybe 100kg so lets say that it is worth £70 wholesale in large quantity. I would say £35 is about right for a small lot unless it was a lot more lead than that.

He should not have taken the lead without permission though. He owes you money and he better have a receipt.

ok - makes sense - he's offered us £30 so I'll take that
