Is it wrong that I feel more nervous than excited?

we kick off tomorrow with the boiler coming out and being relocated (should be done by Thursday) Then Electrics on Monday rewiring the kitchen and fuse box (initial bit should only take 1 day)
then we go on holiday on the 1st August and they knock down walls and rip out stuff and change windows and put in patio doors etc..

I can't make any more decisions, I don't care (but I do very much) I just want it done and we haven't even started yet!

Tip/coping strategies are welcomed!!!

I felt much the same in the run up to the start of our building work, which has been going on for 2 weeks now, but I feel much happier now I can see things taking shape - I'm sure it will be the same for you.

I think that, as long as you have faith in your builder, once you see it all get going you can relax a bit and just let everyone get on with their jobs.

I don't know how involved with the planning etc you have been/are but if you're like me you'll know exactly how you want everything to be and where things need to go. I would just say keep a check on what is happening each day so that if there are any problems that need putting right you can nip them in the bud before they become harder to deal with.

We are off on holiday next Monday while the build is going on, like you, but I'm just going to make sure that if there is anything they will need to know about the stuff that's happening while we are away we discuss it before we go - they will have our mobile numbers too just in case!

So good luck with it all, I'm sure it will be fine and your worries will hopefully lessen as you see things happening.

Ours has been going on since Easter (big extension).

We have been 'living upstairs' with a temporary kitchen since May.

It has actually gone well, but most days I feel like crying . I just want my home back. I don't want builders arriving at 7.30 a.m. every day. I want to vacuum up all the dust and unpack my belongings.

Oh, and I am sick of washing up in a fecking handbasin .

Good luck

Waiting for it to start is worse than having it go on imo. Easy for me to say though. Week two of loft and disruption minimal.

I'm with you on this. We start on Monday. I'm packing the house up now (honestly, not wasting time on MN!!!). The closer I get the more nervous I'm getting. I'm so worried about how I'm going to cope with the kids all summer holidays with no downstairs and only half of the garden. I'm also stupidly scared that my beautiful house is going to fall down which I know is a silly worry but I am and I'm loosing sleep over it as well which is even more daft.

Try and focus on the finished product. Hard I know but in a few months it will be just how you envisaged and you'll love it.

thanks ladies,

it is really silly I know, DH and I had a huge row last night because I need soothing, but so does he and instead of pulling together we were taking it out on each other.
We came to the conclusion last night that our life long dream of building our own house would never work if we can't cope with an extension and new kitchen

I have a lady coming to pick up a ckae this afternoon and I hope she realises that I made the cake yesterday before the house was covered in dust sheets by the builders.

I hope all your projects go well, I am looking forward to the end product, and am going tofarm the children out to the grandparents as much as possible once we are back from holiday.
