Who do you get in to sort out your lighting?

10 year old estate house, usual skank lighting (far too dim, not well placed!)

Who do you get in to sort it on a normal budget??

In Oz we went to our 'local lighting store' who sent 'an expert' out to run through our options, then when we chose what we wanted, if we bought the stuff from the store, the advice service was free!

Here it seems to be either an interior designer (££) or the luck of the draw- whether your 'DIY' bloke has any experience! OUR experience has taught us that 'experts' in various fields can come up with ideas we'd've never have thought or and pitfalls that wouldn't have occurred to us! The 'ah, bear in mind that if you do THAT, you'll have to watch out for THIS' type advice.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

We have just moved into a 30year old house with 'skank' lighting EVERYWHERE- TBH we are just sorting it ourselves- buying new lights and having an electrician fit them. But that said we aren't moving any of the light fittings, but even if we were I would just get a good electrician to do it.

If your town has an independent lighting store it may be worth contacting them though just in case they offer this kind of service- I haven't come across it though.
