The hallway is stripped bare, I have a very small entrace leading right onto stairs and smal landing too.

I want something bright and clean,

Any ideas for paint colour / wallpaper And also carpet colour?

I have just done ours. Fed up of the light colour as the kids marks were all over it, The light thing was pointless as I don't hang out in the hall so I have painted it in something truffle and it is fab.

Ooh truffle sounds nice, do you have carpet?

We've just got cream walls, neautral carpet and white woodwork with nice period details. It needs re-doing as it's starting to look a little grubby.

I'd love to go for truffle or a Baileys colour but we have just agreed to go with Petticoat from the Crown Period Colours range.

Mine is very plain from a basic decor point of view with colour added in from accessories. It is a bigger space than yours though, from the sound of it.

Hall - approx 9ft wide by 12ft long.
Flooring - High gloss crema large format (50x50cm) porcelain tiles. Big, brightly coloured Ikea stripy Strib rug.
Walls - Farrow & Ball 'Matchstick' emulsion.

Stairs&Landings
Flooring - pale neutral flat pile carpet, very similar to this
Walls - Matchstick

The window on the landings is a huge long stained glass window (spanning 3 floors) so too much colour on the walls and whatnot would have been too busy and detracted from the window.

all wood is natural oak...

Don't do anything light or white as it will all be heavily trafficked and will look grubby in no time.

Mine is something like this for the stairs, and something like this for the hall. (They're separate, such is my quirky house) The hall has a dark oak floor, and the stairs is in need of new carpet -- it was once beige-ish. The cat has contributed a furball to the decor I notice, and the DCs have left most of their laundry on the stairs too, by the looks of it. Plus a wet swimsuit. Tsk.

Next time I paint the stairs and passageway upstairs I'm going to use a golden-green-yellow colour to add a bit of warmth. Something like this but not so intense. Haven't found it yet. It exists in my mind's eye.

Boring but does the job - light and airry feel. Stripped wood floors, cream walls, a runner up the stairs rather than a full-on carpet.
