PMSL,

wrong place to post this!

they all rear there own organic free range chickens ya'know

ruddynorah · 03/10/2008 22:11

hey i don't even eat meat. i weave my own chicken from wheatgrass i've hand threaded. yum.

LazyLinePainterJane · 03/10/2008 22:14

These are the chickens that now contain more fat than protein. Gross. Might as well eat a Big Mac. And stuffed full of water as well.

whooosh · 03/10/2008 22:18

Thes chickens have been bought at a "knock down price " from suppliers who are desperate to keep their farms going.

I am not so sure that the should be kept goin g(personally) as they are all intensive and rally not very pleasant.

People (other than the "truly" committed) willalways been drawn in by these deals which will only lead to more.

avenanap · 03/10/2008 22:20

So, this means they have paid the farmers even less so they will be going into serious debt from these chickens and in danger of bankruptcy. There won't be any more of these deals because the growers won't have any money to grow the chickens to sell at this price.

It's disgusting.

Mercy · 03/10/2008 22:21

When my mum was young chicken was a treat, they would eat it on Christmas day (turkey hadn't been invented) and maybe a couple of times during the rest of the year.

whooosh · 03/10/2008 22:23

Sadly it is cheaper to kill them than keep feeding them and hope for a bigger price.....

avenanap · 03/10/2008 22:25

Hmm. They have a life cycle of about 45 days don't they? They are special chucks that grow really quickly. If the growers can't afford to feed them they will be out of business as they will make a minimal profit on £2 so won't be able to buy feed with the money they make.

Mercy · 03/10/2008 22:32

iirc most male chicks are killed adn slightly older ones are the ones we buy from wherever.
