Buying in advance (sales)

Hi All

Recently we have become more financially stable (for a while there it was very much pay check to pay check). We are however by no means flush for cash, I am still on maternity leave and cost of living is astronomical. But for the first time ever we are in a position to buy in advance as opposed to when immediately needed. This is obviously better financially for us too.

My question is how do people do this? Do you buy winter coats at the start of summer or when is it they actually go on sale? When do they sale last seasons clothes? Do you take note of Prime days etc and buy Christmas presents and birthdays in advance? What about school bags etc?

My kids are small, 4, 2 and 4 months but I've just done a shop for my eldest starting P1 and it's £200 without a winter coat! I see loads of winter coats in the sale for less than half the price but the ages are all sold out which made me wonder how people know when to snap them up?
