Octopus Go Fixed Tariff for anyone with an EV or PHEV

Hi

We’ve recently changed our Octopus tariff to the Octopus Go, which is only available to those who own or lease an electric vehicle or plug in hybrid electric vehicle and have a smart meter.

It’s an electric only tariff which is fixed for 12 months and the day rate is currently lower than what the price cap rate will be from October.

Plus there is a 4hour period overnight for very cheap electricity (ours is 7.5p kWh). That is for all electricity used at that time, not just car charging. We run the dishwasher and washing machine. We’re also hoping to get a powerwall battery and fill that as much as possible at the cheap rate and use it to run things next day.

You can check the rate for your area Here (Octopus)

You will need to take a separate gas tariff with them (probably the price cap one at this stage?)

I’m not sure if it is allowing you to sign up online for this at the moment. A colleague had to ring them and talk it over before they let him onto it.

I do have a referral code, which would give both you and me a £50 bill credit but again I’m not 100% sure whether these are being accepted in the current situation. Worth a try though if you are considering switching to them anyway.

Meant to add, they will possibly revise the prices upwards in the next few days after today’s price cap announcement.

Hope this is useful to somebody.

And I do recognise that we are hugely privileged to be in the position to have our EV (company car - couldn’t afford to buy one ourselves) and just enough savings for a battery. I have massive sympathy for all those who will struggle due to this situation and wish there were a solution 💐
