Presents to send to Oz

Help! My friend lives in Australia with her children. I always send them birthday and Christmas gifts but it always costs a fortune in postage. I have no idea what I can send to keep costs down. I end up buying cheap presents and the postage costs double the gifts. Any ideas what I can send? Books still cost a lot too!

I usually send a calendar and some treats that we enjoyed growing up

I'm so confused. I've looked at some
Of the websites and I don't know how to pay? So if I pay by my card will I get charged extra?

@candlefloozy you can just pay with your card like you would on a UK website. You will be charged in AUD or NZD by the website.

Your card issuer/bank will charge for a foreign currency purchase. Usually they apply today's exchange rate plus a small fee. For example Barclays charge 2.75% so £2.75 for every £100 or $200aud or thereabouts. Darn sight cheaper than Uk postage though!

As I say below, if you want to avoid fees and get a better exchange rate and you will be doing this often try a Caxton FX card

@nakedavengeragain thank you. That explains it well for me
