How much support GHS gives to pupils in chess opportunities in school?

GHS sports and chess provision
We’re considering GHS for our daughter and I’d really appreciate views from current parents about the sports provision.
GHS has a fantastic reputation for sport, but I’ve heard from a couple of parents that much of the serious training happens outside school and school support can be quite limited.
I was particularly surprised to hear that chess is mainly a social lunchtime club, with little structured coaching, despite GHS competing successfully.
Is that a fair reflection? How much does GHS actually develop and support girls in sport/chess, versus relying on external clubs and coaching?

I think you will find the sport situation is the same in all private day schools. A majority of the training and matches happen at club level outside school. The school year is only 30 weeks and there are not enough term time weekends or Wednesday afternoons for matches to give development to the team. Rowing is slightly different as this is less club led.
