Experiences of Halstead St Andrews and RGS prep from reception onwards

My DS will be starting Halstead St Andrews nursery in September after he just turns 2. The school has a nursery plus provision which works great for us at it is open for 46 weeks.

From reviews, own experience at Stay and Play at the nursery we think it’s fantastic.

I’m probably thinking quite ahead of myself but what is the school from reception onwards like? We want our little one to go to a prep that focuses on academics as well as extracurricular. If you have kids at HSA what is your experience like? We are considering RGS prep too. What are your recommendations.

All I know is that the merger has been a disaster from start to finish and a lot of kids left, especially from Halstead. Glad you're having a good time at nursery. But I would be cautious about these types of schools nowadays, as sad as it seems, they will, and do, struggle. Safer and better to go with RGS to start with maybe - as soon as he is 3 - or go with another prep school thats owned by a larger school like Rydes Hill or Cranmore. Not heard great things about the Head there either, had two friends who had DDs that left.

Im sure you’ll get the marketing department replies. But at the end of the day, if youre happy already, stick with it, if you want long term certainty on the fact that it will still be there in a few years, plus a gteat esucation, go with 9ne of the above, and if you're happy for now, stick with it until he's old enough for RGS or whatever you fancy.

Rydes Hill is another great option we are considering. Thank you so much for your input.
We’re happy with HSA for nursery at the moment. But would be exploring for beyond.
