7+ - choice among LEH/WUS/CJS

DD worked hard now has a confusing list of offers at 7+ to choose from within a few days

-CJS - Move to north London, coach travel each day, close to work so can pickup, senior transition to CLSG

-LEH - all girls (not that it matters), walking from home, senior transition

-WUS - convert from waitlist, move to central, no after-school care at all, no defined transition

-Bute - Confident but not yet, move to west, 11+ stress for sure, west London competitive mum-bubble (apparently that exists)

Would we do her an injustice if we choose LEH which so convenient for the family ?

Definitely take LEH, it’s a great option and near home. It’s crazy to take Westminster Under and be in the first cohort of girls when you have an excellent prep with a well established set up for girls sport etc. LEH and living near by gives you a Tiffin girls option too. The Westminster fees are crazy from year 9 - almost £50k Pa - imagine what they will be in 7 years time.

Feels like boasting but to complicate matters for me - another offer turned up for DD - Guildford High - this one is academically ranked higher than the rest but requires us to move deep in Surrey and means longer commute to work for me and DH, apparently this one is ultra competitive hot house in terms of senior school culture

It’s not worth moving from Hampton to Guildford for LEH V GHS. It sounds like your dd is very bright, she is certain to the same GCSEs whatever school she goes too.

You must be referring to Jack and Jill’s. They have always been academically aligned with LEH and train the girls very well (feeder school to LEH) . Their classes are small 12-15 students max but very academic.

LEH or GHS?

SWLmama · 30/01/2026 13:48

LEH girls do move to GHS for year 7 and the school does operate on a higher level academically. That said, moving to that part of the country could potentially limit your options later if you decide to try for other schools, either for 11+ or even sixth form. I would advise against it given the list of schools your child tried out this time.

SWLmama · 30/01/2026 13:49

I'd go for GHS only if you're keen on staying and single sex throughout.

HanSB · 30/01/2026 15:52

We have applied for LEH and GHS for 11+ and would prioritise LEH if we lived in walking distance. We would not move to Guildford because of the longer commute to work. Do the schools have offer holder days at 7+ to help you make your decision?

Schoolgatelassie · 30/01/2026 16:39

Strangely current school hints Bute is best as she may not be 'challenged' adequately in LEH Junior. This is difficult to digest for a reputed school like LEH

I’d still go LEH. You’d have to tutor anywhere and then at least if you want to move you have guaranteed place and easy walk for 4 years at least!

Peeps, thanks to you all. You made this decision much easier for me. We've taken up LEH, guilt-free.

Well done, hard decisions! Feel free to PM if you have any questions.

We have just chosen LEH , my daughter really liked the school and the teachers. The girls were bright and confident!

Happymumlife12 · 23/03/2026 20:30

I just saw your post. We’ve also got offers from GHS and LEH, and I’m having such a hard time deciding!
Our kids seem to be the same age, and like you, the distance to Guildford is a huge worry for me. If you don't mind sharing, what did you eventually decide? It would really help me to hear what influenced your choice. Thanks

@Happymumlife12, the OP chose LEH.

Happymumlife12 · 23/03/2026 21:31

Thank you for letting me know. Glad to hear she's made a decision.
