Is it a good sign if admissions remember your child?

Is it a good sign if the admissions officer remembers my child so well?
When we returned to the school for the interview, the admissions officer immediately recognised my child, remembered his situation, and warmly welcomed him back.

They even asked whether his injured leg had recovered, which surprised me as it felt quite personal and specific.

I’m not sure whether this is a positive sign or simply professional friendliness, so I’d love to hear if others have had similar experiences.

It says very little.

Typically admissions are the "front of house" of a school and part of that is advertising the school. They are very good at little details. While lovely, I wouldn't read too much into it.

I wouldn't read much into it as an injury is probably quite memorable. Good luck though!

FuzzyWolf · 08/01/2026 19:16

Professional friendliness as they are the initial face of the school.

Isn't that a key part of the admission teams job at a private school? They want you to think your child is important enough to remember so you pay them a not so insignificant sum to send your child there? I really wouldn't read anything into it.

There will be notes on his file about previous meetings or communication. Admissions folks are primarily about sales and getting bums on seats. It doesn’t indicate anything specific. In my experience.

Literally means nothing, sorry!!

I don’t think it’s a good sign, exactly, but it’s lovely and personable, and would give me a very positive impression of the school! Good luck to you and your DC.

Sandysandal · 08/01/2026 19:53

It’s their job to make you feel special! And they keep notes! It would be concerning if they didn’t do this.

Professional friendliness most likely. But could equally be a good or bad sign. DC can be memorable for all manner of reasons. Good and not so good. You’ll know soon enough.

He’s probably distinctive because of his injury.
