We have accepted RP but it’s still a back up for us, we have 1 more school to sit so hoping that will be a positive outcome for us.

Savemefromthekids · 07/11/2025 12:41

We’ve accepted RP too. We are still to sit a few assessments but if RP ends up being our school eventually, I am very impressed with their academics etc which will prepare us for 11plus!

@Zoolu123@Savemefromthekidsdo you have boys or girls? Trying to figure out what the split will be! I have a boy

@Jamie3 did they not fill all their spaces because they didn’t accept everyone who applied or because they didn’t have enough applicants ? I’m sure they would have the 20 or so spaces they have that applied no ?
We were torn between RP and edgegrove. anyone else applied to edgegrove ? out of interest what are the negative things you have heard as I have only heard positive things since the new head joined

Hoping for some advice

We sat 3 school 4+ assesements, Manor Lodge, Radlet Prep and Edge Grove.

Manor Lodge was our first choice but unfortunately we were put on waitlist. We therefore accepted RP.

Initially we were upset but after going to RP offer morning we were pleasantly surprised. We shifted our mindset and content that RP is where we are going. However with last Friday being deadline for Habs girls and boys offer there has naturally been some movement and we were surprised to have now received an offer from ML.

If this was a couple of months ago we wouldn’t even have hesistated saying yes to ML but we’ve shifted our mindset to going to RP.

We live in Radlett so both schools are local for us.

From our experience and speaking to people
ML is super modern lovely facilities in comparison to RP, however RP seems to be more nurturing and supportive for children especially those who may require extra support like ours. The leadership team at RP seemed to be more open and had warmer feeling. The 11+ results from RP are really impressive and seems to be performing slightly better than ML.
However RP facilities are more old school.

We need to make a decision quickly and would be grateful for anyone to share their experiences or advantages/disadvantages of that we are missing?

It would be easier going from Manor Lodge to RP than the other way round so maybe accept Manor Lodge and if you change your mind I think it would be very possible to move your child to RP later on as they have more spaces /less selective ? If you go for radlett prep and then later changed
your mind I don’t think it would be easy to get a place at Manor lodge again if you declined the offer.

I was exactly the same - very pleasantly surprised by RP and loved the new head.

I'd be very interested to hear people's views of Edge Grove since the new head took office.

I have a child in year 6 at RP and have lots of friends with children at Manor Lodge. Manor lodge is all the frills but it is not nurturing, the work ramps up in year 5 and therefore some children are forced out cos can’t keep up. The head is not approachable and they have a very “your lucky to be here vibe” If you have no issues and bright Manor lodge will be great but at 4 no one can foresee this.
RP is exactly what it claims to be unashamedly academic but at the same time no child is pushed out if they aren’t top of the class. Sport is much stronger than at ML despite there glossier facilities. It is no matter how hard they try to address it boy heavy and varies year on year by how much. It is on the whole a lovely school but worth remembering both are prep schools and the end result is to get the kids into the selective grammars and private secondary’s so some children might not thrive as much as others. The all through schools such as habs, aldenham will be an easier ride especially year 4 upwards.

Zoolu123 · 03/02/2026 20:28

Thank you that’s reassuring to hear. Since my post I’ve managed to speak to some parents at both schools and it seems that RP is far more nurturing and supportive if you child is falling behind academically but also if they need extra support and pastoral care seems better with RP.

we too got good vibes from the new head!

as much as we love the facilities and grounds of ML ultimately what’s the point if your child isn’t going to be well supported, so we’ve decided to stick with our gut and go with RP

Isthisright220 · 08/02/2026 08:42

Now that various deadlines have passed I’d be interested to know if everyone is accepting their offer or has moved on?

We have accepted RP.

we managed to speak to parents at both schools with kids currently in the early and later years.

and for our child we anticipate that he will need some extra support and it seems that RP are more willing and able to provide extra support for those children that need it whereas ML is a bit you just get on with it.

wherever you decide people will have positive and negative things to say my advice is to not follow the trend or others and think where is the best environment for YOUR child.
