Looking into Year 7 entry for DD next year, I also have DS in 3 years who will hopefully go to Abingdon. We liked Tudor Hall but worried about there situation as rumour is they are struggling financially. St Helens would be ideal location wise but don’t think it’s the right school as friends say it’s very academic and pushy. Maybe Cokethorpe, Wychwoods, or St Hugh’s senior school but can’t find much information on this.

She was going to OLA but obviously that has now closed and we are not sure what to do. Any insights from parents would be much appreciated.

Slightly out of Oxford, but have you considered St Mary’s Calne? Pastorally it’s excellent with lots of drama opportunities and all the children are incredibly happy. The results are impressive without it being a hot-house environment.

St Mary’s Calne seems great but far from us and we want a day school. A friend has 3 DD who all thrive there.
We are thinking of taking a chance on St Hugh’s for years 7 and 8 to see how it goes, potentially she will stay all the way through. But lots there still seem to be expected to move on at Year 9 so can see how we get on.

Thanks for all the input. We were also very impressed with St Helen’s but felt too big moving from a very small school.

Do not look at Headington. It’s massive and my DD16 was at Rye (small and lovely) before it merged. Pastorally Headington is bad and it’s only good if you have super sporty or super bright daughters. I thoroughly regret leaving DD at Headington when it merged but had no choice as it was GCSE year.

We are having a dilemma for our son. He has been offered a yr 7 place at St. Hugh's. We loved the school and the vibe but the senior school is unkown! Our other option (assuming he gets a place) is Cokethorpe which js more tried and tested. Any opinions?

Bloxham is really friendly and is just down the road from Tudor Hall.

We are in the same boat as you. It seems that many move into Year 9 at Cokethorpe from St Hugh’s. We are going to St Hugh’s and then will see how the senior schools looks when the time comes as when DD is in Year 9, there will also be Year 10 and 11 in place. My friend has a daughter currently in year 7 and it seems many are staying on for the senior school.

A number of children from my daughters school moved there, and I have heard mixed reviews with not great academics. x

That's encouraging that current year 7s are planning to stay on. I am feeling the pressure as St. Hugh's has a short timeframe for accepting the place but the Cokethorpe exam is not until 31st Jan!

@Cutesbabasmummy- yes, Cokethorpe.
