Secondary schools near Maidenhead, Berkshire

I would be interested to hear of people’s experiences of Co-Ed or Boys secondary schools near Maidenhead please.

We know of Claire’s Court and have friends whose sons go there (and welcome experiences), but all the other schools such as LVS Ascot we don’t know anyone with DC there. We could look out as far as Reading too.

No personal experience I’m afraid, but I have friends with boys at Luckley House in Wokingham who are very happy.

Several of my DS’ peers went to Shiplake or Reading Blue Coat (from Maidenhead). I hear lots of good things about Claire’s Court Boys too.

No personal experience yet as my twins are primary age (starting year 2). Mums of Year 5s at our previous school (we have changed primaries just now though) had meetings with the head of academics who talked about which schools could be best for your child and which schools have which reputations. So, Abingdon and Reading Blue Coat have an academic reputation, Shiplake, Leighton Park and Luckley House - a more creative reputation. I haven’t heard what his take was on St Joseph’s, Crosfields, Claire’s Court or LVS Ascot, but the latter I know has bullying issues which was confirmed by a friend of a friend. We have of course also a very famous boys’ boarding secondary school nearby :-) Also people who live in Holyport College’s catchment consider it very seriously, and if you’re not in catchment you xan board for a fraction of Eton’s price, so you would still make a saving. I think I will probably personally focus on Abingdon, SHSK and maybe Reading Blue Coat.

Following, we quite like shiplake, looking at blue coats also. We have a boy and a girl but worried that blue coats is still very macho.

St Joseph’s College in Reading is a lovely school- small enough that the children are known as individuals. It’s Catholic, if that bothers you, but the majority of students are not Catholic and the atmosphere is extremely inclusive and kind.

@BarbaraVineFan I saw the St Joseph’s choir in a competition recently, they were outstanding!

My mum worked at Claire’s court for 20 years and my brother was a pupil there. They both absolutely loved it.
family school with wonderful facilities and they took pastoral support seriously.

ex. Boyfriend was at shiplake college in henley and although he started as a day pupil he loved it so much he swapped to boarding!
