Hi, I am trying to find out a bit more about the below schools such as how academic, sporty they are and parents views on the schools etc, but I don't seem to find that many discussions on the individual schools when I use the search function on the Mumsnet chat. Is there anywhere else I should be looking?

Reed’s, Halliford, St George's, St John's, St James, Radnor House, Daneshill, Downsend

Thank you

@NoushieMin I’m sure all of us on this thread have friends with negative and positive experiences at all the schools you have mentioned . The best thing you can do is look round all these schools and get a feel for them. We knew pretty quickly which schools did and didn’t feel right for our children (and us).
Once you have done that, look at how you’ll get there, co-ed v single sex, large school versus small, cost of fees etc . would your son flourish in a smaller school or is he better in a larger co-hort?

Some schools are definitely more sporty than others but any good school should have provision for (and encourage) pupils in arts, music and sports. It shouldn’t be an either /or choice .

Lastly, if you really want to differentiate academically, ask the schools for their value add score- they don’t usually publish it but will tell you when asked. It’s easy to take the brightest pupils at year 7 and get good results in GCSE’s. The value add will tell you a-lot more about a schools ability to get the best from their pupils than a results table .

Halliford mum here and am in the love it camp. It's a very special school. Small and nurturing. But I absolutely agree that every school will have people who are positive and negative about any school and it's about finding the right one for your son. More than happy to answer any questions you have about Halliford.

Hi there, your child sounds like a very similar personality to my son! I have two kids at Radnor House which has recently had the planning permitted for the new site at Kneller Hall. I highly recommend as a mid level academic school with fantastic pastoral support. Kids are just nice, happy friendly kids who are encouraged to be their own person. Feel free to message me if you want more info.
