I'm expecting to hear next week - one school said they expect it to stay below the retail price index

Not yet - and I’m not looking forward to it! I have 3 kids in private school 🤣 but one of the mums has suggested that secondary school my son is at (and my daughter will join in September) will be 5%.

Wehaditsogood · 25/03/2025 15:04

10% in ours, including VAT. Edited to add VAT.

Girldogcheese · 26/03/2025 06:14

2.5%, plus 16% VAT

Roomgigi · 26/03/2025 09:35

surely it's 20% VAT?

Some schools are absorbing some of the VAT cost by cost saving, etc - making it a gradual increase for their parents. The government will still receive the 20%. That's my understanding from a friends who is in this position.

User211211 · 26/03/2025 11:57

Our school put the 20% VAT on in January but at the same time said that there’d be no fee increase in September.

Theresalotgoingon · 26/03/2025 13:38

Our school has just announced no fee increase for September 2025 but will pass on the full 20% VAT

Roomgigi · 26/03/2025 15:08

they all had to charge the VAT from January unless you had prepaid for the whole year

tennissquare · 26/03/2025 20:27

@Roomgigi , in Jan some schools lowered their fees and then added 20% so the increase to parents in Jan was 10% or 16% etc.

Roomgigi · 28/03/2025 10:15

Still waiting for one school, the other is 4% rise for Sept

Went up 9% in January after the usual September rise of around 5%. September 2025 it'll go up another 9%. September 2026 will be another 4.6% PLUS whatever cost of living/inflation is at at that point. So in total from July 2024 to September 2026 fees will rise at least 27.6% but probably it'll be more like 32% once the cost of living is added for that year.

Boohoo76 · 30/03/2025 22:37

3.9% in September 25. We had 12.5% in Jan 25 and 9.5% in Sept 24.

Our school lowered the fees in Jan to absorb some of the cost. Expecting larger than usual increases over the next few years to make it up gradually.

My schools just published fees for September 2025. Up by 30% from last year!
I know 20% of that is VAT but seems a massive increase for 1 year. 😱

woolflower · 01/04/2025 20:33

3%.

They added 10%for VAT in January and have absorbed the other 10%.

Did your school not absorb any of the VAT ? What have they gone up by for this September- a further 5% on top of 5% for Sep 2024 and 20% VAT in Jan????

30% in 12 months is just wowzer….😱🫣😱🫣

Dare I ask what school???

Roomgigi · 02/04/2025 07:44

Ours did 7.5% Sept 2024, 12% Jan 2025 now 4% for Sept 2025

Ours was (I think) 8% last September (citing teachers pension and inflation issues) then 12.5% for the rise due to VAT in Jan (so essentially they put all VAT on but froze fees) and we’ve just been told 3.5% for September which is more than I’d like but less than I feared.

SkattieCat · 02/04/2025 18:53

7% September 2024. 14% January 2025. 4.9% September 2025.

Sdpbody · 03/04/2025 10:56

We have 3.5% from Sept.

They added 8% in Sept. 14% in January. 3.5% from Sept.

I think they are really at the top of their budget now, as they will start to price children out.

Fees were £13k for Year 6 when my DD started the school, they are now £21k.

I wonder if you have children at RGS?

Ddakji · 03/04/2025 10:59

Ours was 12% in January and something like 2.75% from September.

No we’re at a GDST - I also think they’re close to pricing people out with rises over the last 5 years as we’re not in an overly affluent location - although it’s one of the cheaper schools in the area so maybe not.

OxfordInkling · 04/04/2025 17:04

6% here. School only ‘passed on’ 14% VAT in Jan and now need to bring it up steadily.

wigywhoo · 05/04/2025 07:54

Yes, this week. 3.6% -having passed through 15% VAT in Jan. local rivals who made a big thing of no VAT increase in Jan have gone up 15%.
