The Manor School, Abingdon recent experiences?

Hello wonderful hive mind!

Dc2 (6) is unhappy at state primary (various reasons - some social and some to do with changes at school under new head) Creative, quirky, needs some help with academics (no SEN yet although we reckon probably dyslexic) but very lovely and much more compliant than Dc1 at school. We looked at The Manor for Dc1 but didn't think it was academic/big enough for him and he has gone happily to The Dragon.

Dc2 is a different child. Anyone with any recent experience of The Manor or Headington Prep please?

Many thanks!

I think you need to ask HQ to amend your title to the correct spelling.

We took our child out of The Manor as they operate in the dark ages, especially when it comes to SEN and sport. The Dragon has the best SEN support in my opinion and they are pretty up to date on best practise etc. Headington good too, but selective entry.

So sorry to hear this Pops75 perhaps you could tell me more in a DM if that's possible? It would be really helpful to get your perspective.

@Happylittlecloud21 we're looking round the Manor on Friday as they have an open morning. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll see if I can ask!

We have friends with a DC at the Manor, who seems very happy there, and they've been very impressed with the extracurriculars on offer and the wraparound care. Fees have just gone up, so some parents upset, but that seems par for the course at the moment.

We're strongly considering the Dragon for our DC (really liked it when we looked around) - would be very interested in hearing your recent experience of it (though don't want to hijack your thread, so feel free to PM!).

The Manor has recently been picking up a few students expelled from other schools.

The extra curricular offerings are a red herring. They are limited to a few children per club, and many children are left with no clubs and have to go to prep club to sit in the dinning hall in silence. The sport is terrible, and again, only a few play in external matches leaving the rest of the kids with nothing. Four children left in two terms from my child's year group and the year was pretty small. For the price of the fees there are many better options.

This is very interesting and certainly not what they are selling

Moved our DD to The Manor from another independent school in the area as she kept saying to us she was finding school boring, not stretched enough in Maths (being a subject she enjoys). She joined the manor in year 3 and it has been the the best decision ever.
Academically we have been pleased, she is leaving the manor at the end of this term and off to an amazing senior school to board. She managed to be in the top teams in two sports and not great in other sports particularly cricket. if you child is good in a sport and is in the top team they'll participate in more fixtures.
Regarding clubs, some have limits and there were times she didn't get a club she wanted in a term and gets it the following term.
