Reports - when?

I'm going in to speak to Headteacher this week. School have decided to give reports out on last day of term, having given them out a week earlier in previous years.

Obviously, this gives no opportunity for query or time to meet with teacher.

Do others think this is reasonable or not?
When do others get the end of year reports?

We get ours the last Monday of term usually.

We finish on the Thursday, so again no real chance to make an appointment with the teacher to discuss any issues.

It always irritates me that they state on the reports "please raise any issues with the class teacher", but then give you no time to do so.

In an ideal world nothing in the report should be an issue, but it's not an ideal world.

You are entitled to have time to read the report and have a meeting to discuss it with the teacher if you choose. So the school are not sticking to the rules.
Of course, I've always assumed that the meeting should be in the same term as the report.
We gave ours out last Friday, and the parents have the opportunity to drop in and discuss things on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

We have ours on the last day of term.

PlumBumMum · 04/07/2010 17:11

We got ours on the 2nd last day, which I thought was abit late but then again think if there was something that really needed discussing the teacher should have already brought it to my attenetion iyswim

I agree that any real concerns should have been brought to a parents attention at this point. But there have been occasions when small things have been wrong eg. a couple of years ago an attendance figure was wrong, was soon corrected and all was fine.

But, more importantly, if something did come up that hadn't been brought to my attention -quite possible in many schools - I would like the opportunity to raise this before the new academic year, new teacher etc.

Last day is crap. Sounds like the Head wants to dodge parents.

Our reports go out this week giving parents a couple of weeks to see teachers if they need to.

newpup · 04/07/2010 18:28

That is fairly unusual, most schools give the parents a week or two to raise any issues. We get ours on Friday and break up 2 weeks later.

I would be unhappy with getting them the last day of term too!

LIZS · 04/07/2010 18:31

We have only ever had them on last day or, more often, posted later.

primarymum · 04/07/2010 18:58

Ours go out as soon as they are ready! Hopefully this will be this week, after we have written, printed, proofread, reprinted and photocopied them. We're aiming for Wednesday but the printer is on a go-slow!

Ours go out a week and a day before the end of term so that parents have time to meet with us if they wish to.
