How do I find the best school and go about getting my DD a place? x

Have a look at the local council's website - there will be details of all the schools in the area and their admissions criteria, as well as details on how to apply.

As for choosing - visit them. By all means look at Ofsted reports (these are all online too) but they are not the be all and end all.
