If we get a place via waiting list?...

OK DS is due to start reception in Sept. He's on the waiting list for 2 schools. School 1, the more local one he is 6th. School 2, further away he is 3rd.

Now I'd say school 2 has a more movement, school 1 I think people don't really move.

I've read that places sometimes come up in September due to people not taking up the places offered. So maybe we'd get school 2 in Sept.

But what to do about DS's first day at school? I could be in the situation that he starts in the school we've been offered and then he gets a place elsewhere. That'd be very confusing for a four-year old.

can you delay when ds is due to start school? is there another intake in january?

dd currently is on waiting lists with no school place as i dont have to send her until sept 2011 as she has a May birthday

Hi we're in same situation. Although dd already has a place at 1 school we are going to hold out on the waiting list of our preferred school. Preferred school have said that if it gets to the case that she transfers after say 2 weeks they will take special care to work with her to help her settle in. In the meantime we have been very encouraging to dd about attending placed school saying x is your school and mrs x is your teacher etc although she does know she is on wait list for preferred school.

School said that last year they had 6 children just not turn up - either moved or gone to private school and parents hadn't bothered to decline place.
Its nailbiting isn't it?

I could delay his start to school, but to be honest, due to new baby and an exam in October (arrgh) I'd prefer he was in school. Sounds awful doesn't it?

We've been doing the same, pointing out his bog school every time we pass it. He's meeting the teacher on Thursday. He doesn't know he's on the list for other schools.

Our DD started at one school then a month into term got a place via the waiting list at our preferred school. She moved a week later, with no problem at all - at that stage they are all just settling in anyway.
