He's tall and slim, so I need adjustable waists on his trousers. M&S age 6 is 116 cm, which he could well be my sept, but the height up is 122 and age 7 which are going to be way too long! He's only 4 atm.

Anyone else have this problem with in between sizes?

Could you buy the bigger trousers and hem them and just rehem/ let them out as he grows? Thats what I do for my four yr old, but not everyone is in to sewing so I understand if you wouldnt!

Have you tried them on, because although my ds has always been very tall for his age, his legs were short in comparison and he wore trousers nearer his proper age, although tops he was always in tops 2 sizes bigger.

I think M&S children's clothes are on the small side so you will need to buy bigger from there. Not that it helps with school stuff but I find Boden a good fit on ds (tall and very skinny 6 yr old) provided I remember to get trousers with the adjustable waist bands.

I bought some last year from Adams in the sale and they sent the wrong ones - age 5 but long leg not standard and an adjustable waist. Think we may still have them (planned to ebay as too expensive on postage to return) so I could measure the leg and see if something like that would work?

M&S do a style of school trousers that come in long and short

here

Can't advise you what age to get but I do promise they are a much better fit for tall. slim children. They do still have an adjustable waist too

Thanks for the replies. I ended up being impatient and put in an order at M&S with a mixture of age 6 and 7. If the 6 is OK then I'll keep the 7's for later.

I did see those mysteryfairy, but assumed that because they were varied length, they wouldn't have the adjustable waist. I might do another cheeky order and get a 6 long, hopefully there won't be too much fabric.

Just when you think you've got it sorted, there's something else to think about!
