Purely out of interest.

Our primary has just announced that it is rolling it out. It's called Studywiz nationally and Wizkid in Hants, apparently.

It's what is known as a VLE or virtual leanring environment. The government has put out that all shcools should have one by (I think) 2012? If used to it's full extent all people linked to the shcool can use it, newsletters etc will be stored on there. The children log on to their class page and the teacher sets a series of activities, this could be links to other web sites, pictures to look at, discussion boards, chat rooms (although most schools seem to turn off the chat room facility) Children can also upload their home work onto it. We use it, but not to it's full capacity.

We use it (Hants) but not a great deal yet (in Yr 1). They used it to set work when we were snowed in in January. Seems like a good way to introduce them to concepts of the internet and email in a controlled envrironment.
