I'm feeling (irrationally?) disappointed over the allocation of Y3 teachers in my DD's school

Just a mother venting here because I know in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter and it's not my place to interfere. But I need to share my feelings of disappointment somewhere.

DD has had a cover teacher since May half-term because her Y2 teacher went on maternity leave. The cover teacher is great and has very quickly got the measure of my daughter and seems to be really good for her. I found out that said teacher is going to have a Y3 class next year and got excited because logically, I thought they would keep my DD's class with this teacher in Y3.

I had 24 hours of feeling very happy over my presumption, happy that she would not have to get used to another new teacher (she changed schools in January) and then yesterday she came home and had learnt that her Y2 class are going to have one of the other Y3 teachers (there are 3 classes per year group) Cue much overdramatic disappointment for me!

In my school we do this intentionally (well, we make sure that a class doesn't have the same teacher 2 years in a row, it's slightly different because they've only had her since May) because it is possible for children to have a real personality clash with a teacher or vice versa. If a child has the same teacher 2 years running and doesn't get on with them, that's 2 years of schooling with a problem. Yes, there will be some children who would benefit, but there may be some who don't.

In this case, however, since she has only been there for a term, it seems a little daft, but there may well be reasons behind it - maybe one of the other classes is better suited to the original teacher's strengths, and she will be back at some point.

So, I raided DD's bookbag this morning and realised she had a letter about this. She's become lazy/forgetful in giving me letters and I have not yet got in the habit of checking daily.

The Y3 teachers for next year include her current teacher/teacher who went on maternity leave. So, that teacher could be coming back anytime in the course of the next academic year and of course they would not put her ex-Y2s with her when they had her for 5 half terms. It all makes sense.
