uniform for tall skinny girl

DD1 (4 y/o) is tall and skinny. I've been trying to get a pinafore for Autumn/Winter as I like to keep her chest warm due to her asthma .

The only trouble is she has a 22"/56cm chest over vest & top but needs a 27"/68cm length to meet the knee length requirement of the uniform regs. I've got a Asda pinny in 5-6, length is fine but chest is enormous (27").

I've also got 2nd hand Trutex pinnies off ebay which I ordered by chest size (one was 56cm and the other was 65cm [to grow into]) 56cm is fine in the chest but barely covered her bum and 65cm is a good length but she is swimming in it.

It seems like she needs a 3-4 for chest size and a 6-7 for length.

Does anywhere sell adjustable waist pinafores or particularly slim fitting ones?

Perhaps you should look at French companies. My DS has always been tall and slim and I remember getting some good clothes from a French mail order company when he was smaller. Must say companies like M & S seem to have got worse in this regard over the years.

Alternatively, could you or grandma get a pattern and make a few?

Does it have to be a pinafore?

My eldest is tall but skinny and like you have described was swamped by them. I opted for skirts with adjustable waists (Next or M&S) in a size up to meet the length requirement. Also a bit easier to get on and off for P.E.

I have found that M&S pinafores are quite narrow on the chest. You will probably have to buy age 6-7, and the ones with a zip are the narrowest. In fact you find lots of people with average children complaining about how narrow the pinafores are on their website.

Thanks for the tips. Her school is on the top of a hill (literally!) and the playground is very exposed so I want her to be as warm as possible at playtime.
