I have learnt that phonics is taught in phases, up to phase 6 at the end of yr2?? OK.

DD is in yr1 and this week has come home with EXACTLY the same spelling list that she had in January, and incidentally got correct. How can this be moving on? Is this bad practice? Any ideas from teachers very wwelcome.

Without knowing your daughter I would say the most common reason for repeating spellings is that while the child was able to spell them for a test they aren't spelling them correctly in their day to day writing ... which is why I consider spelling tests a pointless exercise.

Phonics are only taught using the phases if the school is following the Letters & Sounds programme rather than any of the many other programmes available.

Not a teacher, but, my DS has spellings that were done earlier in the year. The reason given was it is the last term of the year and they like to reinforce what they have learned.
