Hill House Small School- After school Activities

I loved everything about the school and registered my DS there. He will be starting small school in September, 2011. I know it is very early but I have recently heard that they have no after school activities at the school or anywhere nearby. Both me and my dh work and the earliest we can pick him up is at 1630. Anyone has a similar problem? Any suggestions will be extremely welcome as we don't really want to send him to any of the other independent schools in Battersea even though they are closer.

I am assuming he is going into nursery? The older kids finish quite late.

You may need to get an agency nanny to pick him up and take him homw. If he is only little, extra classes will make the day quite long. Our lot (6 years old) finish at 3 and of they have classes, finish at 4.

I presume you have your Prada and Gucci at the ready?

@Pixie I don't think Hill House does any after school. I am checking nurseries around but wanted to see if anyone knew of anything good around

@wahwah I have my fake uggs. Will they do? He will be joining when the is 4.5 years old. I can get to him at about 4:30 at the earliest. I was hoping there was some good after school club around there where he can go till then... Do your kids go to Hill House?

Oooh not fakies. They Will Not Do!

Little one was in to go there (even though I was almost bowled over by a blast of Prada, Gucci, and Chanel in killer heels who jumped out of her Porsche and bounced up the steps when we went to visit), but we saw somewhere else in the meantime and fell in love with it. The headmistress is very nice.

I missed that crowd when I went there. The kids there seems very grounded and polite. I spoke to some parents on the web (working ones like me) who send their kids there and they said the kids were extremely happy.

So where did you finally send your little one?

And I live in Battersea so that's a bit of a commute...

That's the one thing that does scare me though... I don't want my DS feeling he has to keep up with the Joneses!

We ended up at St Nicholas (about 10mins away, next to the park).

Check out St Nicholas on the web. Getting to Princes Street would a bit difficult for me. Hill House is on my way home from Office...

Hi, I am a working mum at HH. I have set up a new website for HH parents. It is run by parents for parents of HH school. It offers news, advice and general school information that is not always available from the school directly. Teachers are also members so may be able to offer input as well.

I think that HH is one of the least snobby schools that you will find in Central London.
Solid establishment. Not like some of the lesser known schools where one is more likely to find chips on shoulders.

Certainly the school don't seem to give a hoot if you are loaded or not or aristo or not. All very equal- a sort of make do and mend school.

Kids are happy. You see them bouncing around the streets. That said I am not sure it is a good school for some. For able extroverts it works. I am not sure it suits all.

It IS very international. In my opinion that is why one might seem so many designer labels. Europeans seem to think it Chic to be loaded down with designer gear. Could be argued that English aristos would consider it nouveau?

I suspect that it is because the School do not encourage parent involvement/ dont require fundraising drives/PTA or school socials that the school remains egalitarian. IMHO it is the parents who introduce the competition and the keeping up with the Jones's concerns.
The environment for parents to flash their credentials/ cash/ability to fundraise is almost entirely removed.
There are pluses and minuses to not having the PTA but its removal stops the Mums competing so much !

Hi, my son is due to go to HH this Sept. Do you still run that website for parents? Keen to get "insider info". My husband went to HH but obv very long ago and I need a frank outline on what it's like to send your kid there. Thanks!
