Schools in EC1/ Hugh Myddleton - anyone?

Hi all,

I am looking at primaries in EC1. Does anyone have any opinions about Hugh Myddleton school? Does anyone know of any other schools around there that my son may be able to get into from a flat on St John Street (half way down the street, near City University). Which would be the best school in that area?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi,

We are moving to EC1 from Australia in a couple of months with a 2.5 yo and a 4yo. We have lived in London before but that was without kids and no NOTHING about the school system. Any recommendations/views on either state or public local primary schools would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks,
bbmaka

Anyone out there at all?

I have just made the decision to move to Clerkenwell/Finsbury, so looking for opinions on schools there more than ever. Hugh Myddleton seems pretty good from Ofsted reports but I always feel twitchy if I can't find any word of mouth accounts on Mumsnet (have become a bit of a mumsnet addict!).

Also I have since come across what seems to be a great school: Christoper Hatton, just off Rosebery Avenue, does anyone have kids there? How about the Gower School?

Any advice and thoughts would be much appreciated.

thanks,

L

Hi Confused,

I've done a bit of research now and whilst still no personal experience to speak of, Christopher Hatton is my first choice-it looks lovely. When would your DD or DS be starting? I agree it would be good to get some real life feedback...anyone?

Hi Bbmaka,

my DS is now two and a half so he wouldn't be starting or a while but as we're about to buy a flat in the area, I am trying to inform myself now so I know what's coming. Sadly we will be just out of the catchment area of Christopher Hatton (which has varied wildly over the past 3 years as the sibling numbers went up and down) but my hope is that he could get onto the waiting list and then, fingers crossed, get a place there at some point.

Still very curious about the other schools and people's experience of them.

Let's hope someone with local experience notices this thread.

Let's keep comparing notes anyway as it seems we will be neighbours in the near future.

Hi Confused,

Just want to check re: Christopher Hatton - are you saying the catchment area has varied a lot recently depending on the no. of siblings getting in?

FYI I started another thread about this some days ago in the hope more people would notice. It's called something like: 'School recommendations in EC1' There are 9 posts so you might find something helpful there!
