Primaries in York?

My OH is desperate to return to the North.
I am trepidatious.
Can anyone suggest where we should start looking?

I don't live in York but BIL does. His DC go to Wheldrake primary which they think is good.
I hope that helps.

We are going to be moving to a village just outside York very soon. I made a spreadsheet looking at lots and lots of schools and then made appointments to see quite a few of them.

I found that the majority of schools were places I would be very happy to send my children to - some are always oversubscribed (I have a DS currently in Y1 and DD going to start reception in September so somewhere that could take them both was necessary).

How old are your children? Would you prefer village schools or larger ones? I prefer slightly smaller schools but they are not for everyone.

Hi Noah,

Thank you! I did see you on another thread, but didn't want to crash it.
Mine are the similar DD in recep now and DS to start next year.
I think a village isn't really for us. We're city people. (plus OH can't drive)

My dd is currently at a 2-form entry and is fairly sociable, so I think that's what I'd start with.

I did wonder about oversubscription, but I guessed that if you move in middle of year that is a case for going above 30 limit?

Moving in the middle of the year can mean they will go over the limit, but not necessarily (DS is going to be in a class with more than 30 for the rest of the school year but then they are splitting the class from September. They were doing this anyway - it's not due to him ).

Generally you would probably be allocated a school with places - if you get in touch with the schools they will be able to let you know. If there is anything else you'd like to know, please ask
