stoke newington waiting lists

I didn't get into any of my local schools. I've just been bumped from 1st place to 3rd place of my third choice this week. I got promoted from 11 to 10 of my closest school (no1 on my list). I'm going to keep calling learning trust but what are my chances I'll get in? This might be how long is a piece of string type question, but how many people on average get accepted from waiting lists? I friend of a friend was on number 14, admittedly in a different part of town, but nevertheless she got in. Does anyone have experience of being on a waiting list and getting in - where were you on the list and how long did it take you to get in?

What is the size of the reception year? 3rd place sounds pretty good to me and at 10th you could still have a good chance if the intake is 90 (and maybe even at 60).

Nice name, teenageriot.

So much depends on the year. A friend was called two weeks into term for a 30 intake class from 4th position on the waiting list (which she turned down). And that was for a veeeery popular school.

Children often don't turn up on the first day, without the parents having informed the school, and the school has to wait two weeks before offering the place. In London, anyway. Then it depends on whether you are prepared to move your child from the school you have (eventually) placed her/him in. I'd say it's worth the move if the school they are in is miles away/not ideal. But that's down to you, obviously.

There again, my dd has been waiting a loooong time for a school - and no-one has moved, at all, from an intake of 90, for a whole year and a half. Which I would never have believed possible. But there you go.

Thanks for response. The intake of both schools (the nearest one where I'm number 10 and the not so near one where I'm number 3) is 90 so maybe I'll have a chance then. I'm totally prepared to move ds because the schools they've offered me to apply to are are dire/or far away... Fingers crossed. Can't believe I may have to wait until a few weeks after school starts to know tho! ds will be very confused. I'd like to be super excited about his school, say to him, this is a great school and this is where you'll be - but probably won't be able to do that...
