The importance of Year 5?

Dd is going into Yr 5 in September. We are thinking about moving this Summer and I am constantly being told that Year 5 is a very important year and that I shouldn't disrupt this year for her i.e. move mid-term/year. We hope to have moved by new academic year but out of interest why is Year 5 considered so important. Thanks

I can't think of any reason why yr 5 would be any more important than any other ( having taught them all from R to yr 6). I wouldn't honestly worry about it, move when you can ( as long as you have a good school to move to!)

It might be a tadge more important if you're planning on her doing 11+ which tend to be right at the start of yr6.

Iwouldnt have said there was anything special about it. I have two kids that have done it and one that's going into it in Sept and it's a year i'm happy to take them out of school for a holiday because it's not a SATs year or anything important.

Year 5 here (Oz) is the stage at which a lot of parents move their kids to get them "in the right place" for high school. It's really common and doesn't seem to cause any problems. I can't see how starting a few months in could cause any problems other than the usual worry that friendships will already have been formed which would apply in any year.

God, I think none of it is that important until Y9. So long as they have excellent reading, writing and maths skills, and play lots of sport and are given confidence.

dd1 moved last summer. (well, so did dd2 and ds1, but that's not so relevant) she's in year 5, and still top of the class lol, but she's in her fifth school, so is used to moving... (we move a lot for work, not on the run or anything)

moving doesn't have to be disruptive for schooling. it doesn't make them forget how to read or write, as far as i can tell...

i wonder why yr 5 is so important? have i missed a trick here - am i supposed to be organising 11+? are we doomed forever to a cess-pit if we don't get in on that particular ball game? something else to try and find out!

Presuming you are in the UK, year 5 isn't especially important. The only years to avoid moving are the GCSE ones and sixth form.
The key thing about moving is making sure you can then get your child into a school you like.
Is your child at a private school? And is it the school saying this?

If its parents do remember parents can get quite emotional about their educational choices, so sometimes are responding emotionally. Also their child/children might be very different from yours.

Having to move is part of life.

I went to three different primary schools because of parental moves and did fine.

However, struggled a bit to feel at home in my last primary school, aged 9. (It was a very different kind of place to our previous home).
