Left looking for a new reception place, as been turned down for chosen schools. Been given a list of schools with places left. Problem is we are in an area that has the two tier and three tier system. Our local school is two tier. My 9 year old daughter is about to start middle school in the three tier system. She has learning difficulties and the school has a very good SEN department and is small in size and some of her friends are going there. There is only one school in the same area that has a place, but it has an Ofsted report at mostly grade 3, but my older daugher could help with school pick up and they would all be in the same area. If the 4 year old goes to one of the schools within the two tier system, (3 grade 2 schools and one outstanding) it would be easier to move the 9 year old to the same school and therefore make drop off and pick up easier and help smooth things for the 4 year old. The alternative is to put the 4 year old in the good 2 tier school and leave the 9 year old to start her middle school, but this would increase childcare fees and mean picking all three up from three different areas.

I don't know what to do, so many people offering different advice and we only have 10 weeks left to find a suitable school!!

Any help greatly appreciated.

Have you been able to visit any of the potential schools? Visiting can help to give a better idea of the schools and Ofsteds don't necessarily tell the full story.

Logistically it sounds easiest to have both children at the same school - would there be space for your middle DD there?

There is a year 5 place at all the two tier schools that have places.

We are going to visit the only three tier school on Friday and have been sent a lovely pack from them. will arrange to see others as well next week.

How did your visit today go?

Kismet2010 · 14/05/2010 20:58

Visited the only school with places in the three tier system and near my other two daughters. The school was really inviting and the staff very helpful. As it is a grade 3 school it is inspected every year and is improving all the time. But like my luck recently the wraparound facility is full, so they can not guarantee a place in September.

Finding this so stressful, usually I cope really well, but this has really got to me!
