Will school prepare her for 11+ ?

My DD1 goes to an independant girls school which is always in the top 10 of the league tables.

She will be prepared for the 11+ for entry into the seniors at her school but does anyone know whether this is good enough preparation for entry into grammer schools?

I think a lot depends on the amount of competition for the grammar school places and obviously on your DD's abilities. Best to speak to the school and other parents. A lot of people seem to do private tutoring as well as the school preparing the children. If the school expects pupils to stay on to the seniors will they be preparing their pupils for the grammar school tests?

Depends on the content of the 11+ in your area.

You can find this out from your LEA. They should be able to tell you the schedule of admissions and which form the exam takes (ours in verbal reasoning, but there are other types.)

Ime, it's unlikely your DD's school will prepare her for 11+ as their aim, obviously, is for as many pupils as poss to go to their own secondary.

Once you know what form the exams take, you can get practice papers and 'how to' guides off Amazon or from Smiths.

Oh, and it's 'independent' and 'grammar' < pedant >.

My DDs school did prep for the grammar 11+ as well as for various independent entrance exams - it doesnt have a secondary school itself - and all the exams are a bit different (some multiple choice, some written; some have NVR, some dont etc etc). Check with the school - a good independent should prepare the kids for whatever exams the parents want them to take, not just on their own internal exam. Note that some LEAs now do the 11+ in September, ahead of most private school exams, so whether the school helps or not, its quite a good idea to find out what type of papers they use and do some familiarisation during the summer hols. You should be able to get the exact details at the GS open day
