sibling rule appeal

hi there, we applied for a place at our first choice primary school but didn't get in. we have instead been offered a place at an inferior primary school in our catchment area.
when we applied we were living in the cathchment area for our first choice primary school but moved in januray of this year.
my son is attending the nursery at the first choice school.
he also has a sister in year 2 at our first choice.
this means that we will have to take our 2 children to 2 different primary schools. how can we be expected to do that and make sure that we are punctual.
we are appealing and would appreciate any advice. thanks.

just a quick update. as u know we appealed and we were successful. (grin)

we told them our situation and they overturned the decision. i believe a total of 7 appeals were successful.

the school is now having to arrange for another teacher ready for september.

we now look forward to my son starting school happy in the knowledge that both our children are at the same lower school.

AJ,
That is good news. As a matter of interest what was the admission number for the school? I ask because for a panel to let in a further 7 pupils on appeal suggests a large mistake by the admission authority and a largish school.

That is just mad.

My LA states that siblings take priority after looked after and special needs children. Then comes distance from school.

Although this means that if there is a high number of siblings, we will be just short of the usual distance I actually agree with the sibling rule, as I think it is crazy and not practical to take children to two different schools asnd as PP has stated, two sets of plays, two sets of sports day etc.

I really hope you win your appeal and sorry to hear you had to move again to be in the catchment. Lte us know what happens.

Oh, sorry, my computer failed to show me your last post. Glad you won the appeal!

totally agree lumboo sibling rule should be higher on criteria list. it is ridiculous that siblings are forced to go to different lower schools.

i was amazed when we won our appeal because everything indicated that we would lose.

to answer your question admission the admission number for the school was 60. there were 92 applications. according to the letter we recieved the LA did everything correctly. but the school has enough room for another class and that's why the appeals were successful.

the school is not overly happy about this but they have created another reception class. they have previously had 3 classes in a year .

i believe for next years admission to recpetion sibling rule will go ahead of catchment on the criteria list.
