Any teachers about this evening?

Would you apply for a job if you made an appointment to view a school, but never got to meet the headteacher?

I have been to see a few schools this week and although a couple of them used children to take us around, we still met the head either on the way in or out.

At one school however, the head was very elusive. It is a part time post & I had a few questions to ask. It wasn't appropriate to ask the children & so the secretary took my details and said that the Head would give me a call back - she didn't.

Thing is I quite liked the school & got a good impression from what I saw but I already work at a school with a Head who has poor people skills and so I am worried that this Head might be the same! (Not the reason why I am leaving by the way!)

I probably wouldn't bother, it's often a sign of there already being someone in mind, hence the head's attitude. However if you really want it go for it, as this may not be the case, she could somply be tied up then forgotten about the message/ not received it.

I did but didn't get an interview. But it was a bit "my contract runs out at the end of the year so I need to find any job". I wasn't disappointed not to be shortlisted.

I agree it's bad form.

Was the head in school? seems odd she wouldn't want to see how a possible candidate behaved around the children.

hmm thanks ladies- it's so difficult, part time vacancies are such a rarity!

xpost with Mrz

I am not sure to be honest but at another viewing I met a lady who had also been to the said school on a different day and not met the Head either. She also phoned the school (to ask same questions) and was still waiting for the Head to ring her back.

I ask because our head is stuck abroad due to the volcano

YouMightKnowMe · 01/05/2010 21:05

Could you ring them and explain that you are interested in applying and couple you specifically make an appointment with the head?

YoMoJo · 01/05/2010 21:21

I will give them another ring Tuesday & see if I can speak to the head and take it from there. Thanks guys

I would think that they are planning an internal appointment and can't really be bothered, but you're right; part-time vacancies are rare enough to follow it up just in case.
