How do I go about asking someone to come open our new building

we cant get anyone to come and open it! Want someone the children can relate to but struggling - do you have any suggestions on who we could invite and how I go about it.

Who have you found very accomodating inthe past that you think would come

I think it depends where you are fot a start. Are there any local children's authors?

I work for an MP that is well liked in the community; he is often asked to go and open school buildings and then holds talks with the children (from a very young age - who all want to ask him if he's met the queen!).

If you have a similar MP you could contact their office and ask (perhaps wait until after the election though).

Ds's school was formally opened by Gordon Brown when he was Chancellor of the Exchequor. Ds (ASD) was most unimpressed I think he was invited because one of the parents had some link to him.

find out who your local 'slebs' are or anyone slightly well-known who went to the school in teh past

I think it would very much depend on where your school is geographically, when you would like it opened and what type of event your are planning to hold.

So for example if you were opening a fantastic library at a London school in the morning with lots of notice, you should probably be able to get someone good to show up, but if you are in a remote location, with not much notice then your options are likely to be a lot more limited.

Sportsmen / women
Anyone suitable a parent can pull in a favour from

How about local news or weather bod? then they can film it and fill up one of the slots on their programme
