Teacher advice please

Hi there,
My DD1 in Y4 is very good at maths, not so in Literacy but improving.
Today, she told me that they have one more group in maths, and she has been moved down level.
Up until now, there was three groups,and she was in the top one. Now a Fourth group has been added and she has been placed in group 3 which is 2nd level from the bottom.
I haven't noticed she was finding her maths homework difficult or she was not coping with it.
I will speak or ask her teacher what is the situation as she is not very happy, and finds the work very easy.
I don't know if someone could explain me which are the reasons a teacher would move a student down so much.
I am not again moving her down levels is she wasn't coping, as I asked her teacher in Y3 to move her down a level in reading. But I would like to know the reasons as she is not feeling very confident right now.

No one can explain except the specific class teacher. You can also ask why you weren't informed she was having difficulties before. If you are not happy with the replies, make a note of when you spoke to her and her reply, especially when she is going to review things, all in writing with a date, and tell her you are keeping a note of this. Ask what you can do to help your daughter with her difficulties etc.

I will keep note of it. At the last teacher/parents meeting, all we talked about was her literacy, as she struggle a litle bit. But maths has never been a problem.
We do a lot of maths at home (both accountants so we like maths).
I will ask the teacher when I pick her up today.

I must admit that my initial reaction on reading this was to wonder if your DD has misunderstood - children are very good at that IME. I wonder if group 3 is 2nd from top, which would make sense. Going from the top 33% to the bottom 50% overnight without warning doesn't make sense to me.

I'll be interested to hear what your DD's teacher says.

I asked the teacher at pick up time. I think she was a little bit surprised about the enquiry, but her answer was that they did have a like a little test and from it, it looked like she was struggling a little bit with the level she was on. Not that she is gone down a level, more like, "may be the others had improve more than her". She said that she did like me telling her about my DD being confused about the change, because she didn't want her to think that she was not improving.
While I was talking to her, the teacher called her, so we finished the conversation together with my DD and the teacher assured her that it didn't mean that she is gone down a level, and she would give her work that the second highest level group does, but that she would keep doing as well the work from her group.
the teacher didn't tell me where she was struggling, well I didn't ask either.
I will ask my DD in a few days if she is happy the work that she is given in class.
