Registering for Primary School

I was just wondering what age your child is when you register interest in a school

And also, does anybody know what happens for RAF/Navy/Army families who move every 3 years and might not have a chance to register - do they not get a good choice of schools?

you can register whenever you like for as many schools as you like, but it has no bearing on the application process (assuming we are talking state schools here of course)

You apply for a school place in the school year before the child is due to start school - the exact dates vary from LA to LA (should be on their website), but I understand that there are moves to bring more standardisation to this (in England anyway) in terms of a standard offer date for primary schools next year (secondary already have a "national offer day")

So for example if you DC is 5 between 1/9/11 & 31/8/12 you will apply during the autumn term starting 1/9/10 (different rules in Scotland, not sure about Wales/NI either)

I hope that helps?

Thanks for clearing that up BetsyBoop, very much appreciated!
