School reports

Hi, I have dd's school report and for each learning objective it has a letter next to it. B for working below, W for working within A for working above and a + for exceeding (age related national expectations). What I'm wondering is what the difference is between A and +, seeing as they both mean apparently the same thing? Her teacher is a bit woolly generally and obviously only comments on dd's progress rather than putting it in context.

I know it's very trivial so don't flame me too much .

Well we have a similar sort of grading at my dd's junior school, and when I asked I was told that to get what yours calls an a+ you have to be genius material - so G + T I guess.

I expect working above is a little like being almost top of the class, exceeding is working a little higher.

Ahh I see, the teacher did say the phrase gifted and talented in relation to dd and literacy last parents evening. But it was very in passing and not at all v clear. Wish teachers would be more straight forward and old school. 2a and 3b etc mean nothing in real terms. I will ask on wednesday what it all bloody means.

My dd is a September baby, so it's hard to know if she is super bright or just meant to be in the year ahead. I really wish the education system was more flexible,for the want of 18 days dd would be in year 2, which would suit her more I expect.

IIRC, 2a is average, what they wish for every child to achieve at key stage 1. 3c is exceptional (it's been a long time, ds is 10 so I may be wrong)
