Roman outfit- help!!!!

DS who is 8 needs a Roman costume by thursday. They're having a banquet, so it's toga clad rather than soldier outfit. I've bought some plastic leaves to make a crown. Any ideas on how to attach leaves to a crown? I was thinking of using garden wire...

We only have white fitted sheets. Do you think I could make a toga out of one of them, or will I have to buy a flat sheet? TThese dressing up days get so expensive!

Any ideas would be very gratefully recieved.

Thanks. Will try and find a suitable sheet now, and will go and buy some safety pins.

I found some suitable wire and have moulded it into a circle. Not sure how to attach leaves though as I haven't got a glue gun. The leaves I bought seem to have disappeared! So annoying!

DS had this and we bought him a man's XXL white T-shirt from Primark for about £3. It was so big that it was 'off the shoulder' toga-stylee....
We gathered it round his waist with a belt, and added a coloured cape/cloak and sandals - 'twas great.

Problem with a sheet is that it tends to come unravelled, trail in the mud etc... get hims to wear shorts underneath!!

Re: Crown - coudl you attach them to a headband otr soemthing?

Good idea about t-shirt. Will see if I can find one in DH's drawer. We've a king's cape we could improvise for the occasion, as it's gold on the inside.
I was a bit dubious about the sheet, standing upto a day's rough play in the playground!
Emmmmmmaa- I hate sewing! Hvae scout badges waiting to be sewed on for tonight! I have't got any gold ribbon but have some easter stuff that might do, and I'll try to sew on leaves( if I can find them!). I wish I was more crafty/good at this kind of thing!

Find a wall with some ivy growing on it, pull off a goodly length and tie it into a circle. Voila, a crown.

jemimapotts · 23/03/2010 11:58

Kreecher- will do that if the plastic leaves have disappeared. If they haven't will try stapling on. Thanks
